Blue Diamonds, GER and Con Spirito, NL play Mamma Mia

The first time that two european corps work together in one programm:

In preparation of the activities in 2007, in which Showband Con Spirito from Joure/ NL celebrates her 40th anniversary, the Blue Diamonds Drum & Bugle Corps from Nienhagen (D) were guests in Joure at the weekend from April 21. - 22.2007. The weekend stood under the sign of "Mamma Mia".

Mamma Mia is a very special project. It is the first time that two groups come together to work for the same program. The idea of going to work together "Con Charma" - a real big festival to celebrate the 40th birthday of Con Spirito. The idea of going to work together arose in May 2006. President Christian Korn from the Blue Diamonds had considered a design for an ABBA show. Then the staff of Blue Diamonds contacted the arrangers from the Netherlands and the idea of arranging a show with the theme of "Mamma Mia" was born.

Con Spirito wanted also to get a new program after two years performing of "Mangione Magic" and because of that the idea arose for a cooperation between both groups. A brand-new show program has been especially created and arranged for both groups by Rob Balfoort, Paul Doop and René van Dijke.

Starting on November 10th both groups met each other the first time in Joure/ NL and began to rehearse the new program.

Sunday November 12th stood entirely in the sign of a Masterclass which to be given by nobody less than the masters Rob Balfoort, Paul Doop and René van Dijke themselves. The masters came themselves on that day to Joure to work with the members of Con Spirito and Blue Diamonds on the "Mamma Mia" program. The masterclass also has been meant an everyone look into the kitchen of the design "Mamma Mia". It took place on Sunday November 12th between 11.00 - 13.00 in the evenementenhal in Joure.

Next meeting was on february 11th in Nienhagen, Germany where both groups performed in the sporting hall to present the programm for thr inhabitants of the village. The "Corps Preview" was visited and celebrated by about 500 village people.

On April, Saturday 21st 2007 there was the next big event: "Con Charma" - a real big festival to celebrate the 40th birthday of Con Spirito.

The last event with Con Spirito will be on June 24th in Nienhagen, Germany: 3rd International MusicFestival with about 12 corps from Germany, Netherlands, Slowenia, Tschechia and Slowakia will play for the audience.

Masterclass Blue Diamonds & Con Spirito November 2006 in Joure


Two Corps - One Sound! From September 1st the first part of the program is available and the Corps can start to work with the musical part. The choreography is written separately for each group by their own choreographers. Both groups are able to give their own identity to the program by that way.

From the 9 - 11 of February Con Spirito will visit the Blue Diamonds DBC in Germany to go on working with the new program.

From 9th up to and including February 11th Con Spirito travels to Germany for do again an exchange with the Blue Diamonds.

Blue Diamonds Summer Tour 2006

Everyone has been asking - "So what's up with the Blue Diamonds European Tour this summer?! " - and now's your chance to find out!

The Blue Diamonds Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to officially announce the performance schedule for their trips through Europe in 2006. The Blue Diamonds will be visiting abroad on a tour to France, Poland, Berlin and the Netherlands bringing their unique style of concerts, and outdoor performances to the fans in Europe.

After a fourteen-hour journey by bus to Le Mans, the Blue Diamonds will start their adventure in France with a performance as part of the Opening Ceremonies of the prestigious “24-hours-race”. Following the performance, the corps will head a parade in Melun and then to downtown Paris to enjoy the sights and sounds of the famed “City of Light”. Highlights of the afternoon will include a visit to the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and after it back home.

In July there will be the next highlight: the second tour to Poland where the Blue Diamonds have got many friends from the visit in 2003.

In August they will travel for a weekend to Berlin to join and perform in a local festival. The Blue Diamonds are looking forward to a visit of the "Brandenburger Tor" and the "Reichstag".

Finally Blue Diamonds will participate in a rehearsal weekend in Joure/ Netherlands with the famous Showband "Con Spirito" to learn the handling of the new brass in "bb" under the leading of their brass-instructor René Ranzijn from Amsterdam, former instructor of the "Colts", USA and many other German and international DBCs.
In 2007 they will have more camps and performances with Con Spirito in Germany and Netherlands.
Together they will play and perform melodies from the well known musical "Mamma Mia". Arranger is Rob Balfoort.

In the meantime there will be a lot of performances and other events in the near of their hometown.




Blue Diamonds reached 5th place at the first contest of the season 2006 in Witzenhausen, Germany.
The corps from Nienhagen entered the competition field again after six years. The Blue Diamonds managed to score 3rd place in guard.


In spring 2007 the colorguard plans to compete in Netherlands.



Imagine it ... over 50 people on the field or on parade at once, playing and marching to thousends of captivated audience members in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Netherlands knocking their socks off, and having fun in the process!

The Blue Diamonds Drum & Bugle Corps Nienhagen/ Germany (since 1984) rehearses two times a week during the year with additional weekend rehearsal camps if there is an event or performance. No, you do not have to be a music major to join - beginners are welcome; they will be teached by our own instructors and by our famous teachers and arrangers from the Netherlands!
